Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 30, 31, John 18:1-20 (KJV).
“Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not” – John 18:17 (KJV).
It is a wonderful experience having Jesus in our lives. In His days on earth, the disciples saw many miracles, signs and wonders done by Him. People even began bringing the sick and afflicted to the disciples believing that the Master’s grace may have rubbed off on them (Matthew 17:16; Luke 10:17). It must have felt good being close to Jesus. But there is another side to this experience.
Jesus warned His disciples that persecution will arise (John 15:20) and they witnessed it firsthand. They saw Jesus escaped being lynched several times. They even warned Him not to go to certain areas. But didJesus give up? No! Peter denied knowing Jesus in today’s verse, but repented. He came back stronger and remained a pillar of the church till death. Christians are still being persecuted today, but how do you see it?
Scriptures are for our learning, to give us comfort, and hope (Romans15:4). Christians are to stand firm in what they have heard, believed, seen, and touched. Jesus does not take pleasure in those who draw back (Luke 9:52). Situations will always arise to test your faith. If you have denied Jesus before, please ask for forgiveness and you will bounce back forcefully like Peter, for God is merciful.
Prayer: Father, I ask for forgiveness and mercy over my life in any area I might have denied you, in Jesus name.
