Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 32,33; John 18:21-40
“Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber” – John 18:40 (KJV).
Barely hours after Jesus admonished His disciples, His sayings came to pass. He was dragged about like a criminal, spat on, with insults raining on Him. Yet, He was determined to do the Will of His father. He came to pay the price for our sins and to get man saved because God does not want any to perish (2 Peter 3:9).
Unknown to the Pharisees and religious leaders, they were helping to fulfill scriptures. Jesus, from the memory verse, was rejected for Barabbas, who was a well known criminal, meaning that He took the place of Barabbas and every sinner who had not yet come to the Father. This act by our Lord is the reason why we have hope today. No matter what any man had done in the past, He can still be saved.
He payed a heavy price for our sins, as seen in His taking the place of Barabbas. He has done it all. All we need to do is to go all out and share the good news about what Christ has done irrespective of the hostility we may encounter. Remember, look up to Him and continue in the same business He did here on earth.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for taking my place and setting me free from punishment
