Bible Reading: Ps. 66 & 67; Romans 7
“O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus …….” – Romans 7: 24-25 (KJV)
Individuals who do not have a personal relationship with Christ or who keep trying to do good and right by their own strength and determination will eventually realize that they are losing the battle against sin. They are helpless to free themselves from its power.
Attempts to earn spiritual salvation by keeping the Law brought only frustration and a greater sense of separation from God because their sinful passions remained in control. In the same way, there are those in the church today who acknowledge the truth, purity and excellence of the message of Christ, yet, because they have not accepted His forgiveness and surrendered their lives to Him, they remain slaves to sin. The fact is that all attempts to live a life free from control of sin, selfishness and immoral desires will be ineffective and useless apart from faith in Christ and a personal relationship with Him. That is the only thing that will truly transform our lives, free us from Satan’s power and provide us with the Holy Spirit’s power for ultimate victory over sin.
The answer is “through Jesus Christ our Lord”. It is He alone who will set us free “from the Law of sin and death”.
Prayer: Father grant me the grace to live a life free from sin.
