Bible Reading: Psalm 135, 136; 1 Corinthians 12
“For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure” – Psalm 135:4 (KJV).
God’s choice is based on grace and not merit. When man rejected God and wandered away to chart his course outside God’s plan, God chose Abram. He was not chosen because of his righteousness or goodness but as an extension of God’s grace. When He choses, He qualifies and enables the person to carry out the assignment he was chosen to fulfill. God first chose people unto salvation then brings them into father-son relationship. Through this relationship, he equips the ones he has chosen for the assignment or purpose he has for them.
Everyone God created has a purpose to fulfill. The calling is to fulfill the purpose of one’s creation. God chose Jacob unto himself. This should mark the end of Jacob charting a course outside God. He becomes a peculiar treasure unto God. What a privilege to know that we have been chosen by God to be his peculiar treasure. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” – 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV).
The implication of being chosen by God is that we are to be set apart for Him and for His purpose. This makes us special and different from others. When God chooses a person, He takes responsibility for the person’s safety and welfare. This is a blessing and a responsibility on the part of the one chosen by God.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for choosing me as your treasured possession in Christ.
