Bible Reading: Proverbs 3, 4, 5; 2 Corinthians 1
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” – 2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV).
Christ is the fulfillment of prophecies and promises. The prophets in the Old Testament spoke concerning him and most of their prophecies pointed to him and ultimately found their fulfillment in him. Several promises under the Old Covenant found their fulfillment in Christ. Again so many practices under the Old Covenant were shadows of the life and ministry of Christ. He is the promised Messiah, the son of the woman promised in Genesis chapter three verse fifteen that would bruise the head of the serpent. The serpent that Moses lifted in the wilderness pointed in advance to the fulfillment on the cross where Jesus was crucified for the redemption of man.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the Sabbath rest. He is the Lord of the Sabbath that secures rest to mankind. The animal sacrifices, the shew bread, the temple and the Passover lamb all found their fulfillment in Jesus. He is the true Shepherd that the Psalmist sang about, that leads beside still water.
In Christ, the promises of God find their fulfillment, and so the fallen man is able to reunite with God through Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the true bread, the bread of life, the fathers (the Jews) ate manna in the wilderness and drank water from the rock, all that found their fulfillment in Christ who is the bread of life and the water of life.
The prophets spoke of circumcising the hearts of men and replacing the stony heart with the heart of flesh, all that was accomplished in Christ who has circumcised the heart of the fallen man and comes to dwell in the regenerated man. In Christ, the will of God finds fulfillment. When Jesus came to the scene, he declared, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” “I am the living bread.” “I am the true shepherd”.
He said, I have, not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. No wonder at the mount of transfiguration, Moses and Elijah representing the law and the prophets appeared to hand over to the one all things pointed to. The scriptures all points to him, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In Christ all the promises of God are done deal.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I avail myself of all the provisions in Christ Jesus.
