Bible Reading: Proverbs 16,17,18; 2 Corinthians 6
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” – Proverb 18:10 (KJV).
In times of storm and crisis, people often seek for a safe place to hide. Life is full of storms and crisis, the only place of safety is in Christ. A song writer wrote: “Rock of ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee”. Unfortunately, people seek for shelter in unsafe places. Safety is not in juju priest, neither is it in money or the arm of the flesh. True safety can only be found in the Lord. There is a place called the secret place of the Most High. It is not just a geographical location but an environment. It is a place of righteousness. It is a place of relationship (creator-creation relationship); it is a place of joy and peace. It is a place of hope and health. It is a place where burdens are lifted and rest is found. Jesus invites us to that place of safety and peace. “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” – Mathew 11:28 (KJV).
In Christ, we are shielded from Satan and his agents, from sin and sickness. Just like the children of Israel found safety in Goshen, and Noah and his family found safety in the Ark, we find safety today in Christ.
Every generation has her battles to fight and storms to confront. For Moses and Israel in Egypt Jesus became Goshen to shield them from the plagues. For Noah and his family, Jesus became an Ark to shield them from the flood that destroyed the then world. For the children of Israel beaten by serpent in the wilderness, Jesus became the bronze serpent to shield and heal them from the dangerous venom of the serpent. For the church today, Jesus has become our place of safety. He saves from the sting of sin, sickness, poverty, curses, satan and death. Come to Jesus and you will find rest.
PRAYER: Dear father, thank you for being my shield from the storms of life.
