BIBLE READING: PROVERB 30, 31; 2 CORINTHIANS 11: 1-6
“There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness” – Proverb 30:12 (KJV).
A generation that is pure in their own eyes when they have not been washed by the blood of Jesus is a depraved generation. Neither religion, education nor good works can make a person pure. None is good except God. Only God can make one pure. A song writer writes; “what can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus”. The blood of Jesus can make the worst sinner pure.
A godly generation acknowledges their sins and inadequacies and shows remorse for their sins. They recognize that of themselves, they can do nothing to make themselves pure or clean before God. They come to God in genuine repentance and ask for mercy. In response to their plea for mercy God forgives their sins and cleanses them of their filthiness with the blood of Jesus shed on the cross for the remission of sins. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool” -Isaiah 1:18 (KJV). The sinner only becomes pure after he has been washed by the blood of Jesus. Anyone claiming to be pure by personal effort or merely by religious attainment or sacrament apart from the blood of Jesus is deceived.
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away” – Isaiah 64:6 (KJV).
Giving of arms, building a place of worship or penance cannot make any clean. Sacrifice of bulls, goats, rams or material possessions cannot make one pure; only the blood of Jesus can make one pure. Any sinner who comes to Jesus in godly sorrow and repentance can experience cleansing and purification by the blood.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the blood that washed white as snow.
