Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 4, 5, 6; 2 Corinthians 12
“And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” – Proverb 25:28 (KJV).
God’s grace is revealed for human empowerment. Grace is God’s ability revealed in human inability. Just as the beauty and brightness of the light is seen in the midst of darkness so the grace of God is revealed and appreciated in human weaknesses. The humility to recognize and acknowledge our human weaknesses and inadequacies qualifies us to enjoy the grace of God. When we think that we are sufficient of our own and so fail to recognize our weaknesses we close the door of grace. Enjoying the grace of God will demand humility to recognize our need of help.
A position of self sufficiency and strength apart from God is a set up for failure. The Scribes and the Pharisees could not access the grace of God in the life of Jesus because they felt they are strong, they are Abraham’s seed, they were not born of fornication or adultery. Their deep religious heritage blinded them to their need of grace. They felt they were not blind, only the blind need the miracle of sight restoration. Their confidence and boasting was rooted in their religious heritage, and not on the wisdom and power of God. They felt they were already good by virtue of their natural heritage as Abraham’s seed.
Jesus confronted them and told them that if they had acknowledged their blindness, they would have received their sight but because they claimed they were alright; their blindness remained. As we take the position of humility and acknowledge our sins and weaknesses, we receive grace or strength in our weaknesses.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your grace released in my weaknesses.
