Bible Reading: Isaiah 53-55, 2 Thessalonians 1
“We all, like Sheep, have gone astray” – Isaiah 53:6 (NIV).
Part of humankind’s stubborn and rebellious nature includes the pull toward things that dishonour God. Individuals prefer to follow their own selfish ways rather than obey God’s commands and instruction (Rom. 6:1). Living to please ourselves rather than living to please God is direct rebellion against Him. This is one of the primary definition of sin. We are all guilty. Therefore, we all needed Christ to die in our place. He is the only one who ever followed God’s purposes completely, resisting all selfish desires. For that reason, his is the only life worthy to pay the full penalty for sin.
In order to receive the benefits of His sacrifice, we must admit our sin, accept Christ’s forgiveness, give up our own way and submit our lives to Christ’s leadership and to God’s purposes.
