Bible Reading: Jeremiah 30 & 31; Philemon 1.
“Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid” – Jeremiah 30:10 (KJV).
The times we are in is fraught with various challenges and seemingly insurmountable security challenges. It sometimes seems like we cannot overcome, regardless of how much we try. Almost every one of us knows someone who has been a victim of the insecurity in our nation. If we don’t directly know someone, we hear it on radio, watch it on television and read it on social media. There seems to be no break from this evil. It is possible to be overcome by fear in this times.
It is now just as it was for the Children of God at the time in which Jeremiah received the word of the LORD. There was fear and insecurity. The Babylonians have ransacked Judah and Israel. The children of God had been spread abroad as captives by various raiding parties. Those that were left lived in constant fear and hopelessness. But the word of God came to them promising to save them again. He encourages them to not fear and not to give in to despair.
In this present situation in our nation, we can rest also on this word of the LORD. We must hear the words of God again and receive his assurance of safety in the midst of obvious insecurity. God has said that He will save us! There is no reason to fear. We must go about our activities with faith and confidence. The God of Jacob is with us!
Prayer: I shall not be given to fear in any circumstances we have in the country.
