Bible Reading: Jeremiah 37, 38 & 39; Hebrews 3
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through an steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”. – Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV)
There are various reasons people invest in the world today. However, chief among this reason is to make returns and no sane institution or company would attempt to deprive the investors the dividends accrue him as and when due if the desire is in the continuity of the industry. With minds set on the returns, the investors would go extra mile to make huge deposit for huge returns at the end of the day.
Jesus Christ our Lord, encourages you as His follower to: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal” v.19. The attitude many put on sadly, Christians are included is to run after the ephemeral mostly at the expense of the eternal realities. The Psalmist is apt when he said, “For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others” Psalm 49:10. Some of us have suffered the attack of thieves and as a result carted away our properties. The news circulated of how some unscrupulous elements broke into the apartment of Kanu Nwankwo and stole away many of his treasures that he labored tirelessly to get from footballing. The man lamented and I have never heard of any counter news that talked of the recovery.
Jesus Christ because of this menace, encouraged: “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is there will your heart be also” vv.20-12 Folks, keep the focus on and lay tirelessly all your treasures in heaven. Whatever is kept there can never be stolen away by the enemy. Make this your daily goal and pursuit!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me not to be consumed with the accumulation of treasures here on earth but release upon me grace to store up my treasures in heaven.
