Bible Reading: Jer. 51, 52, Heb.9
Hebrews 9:11-12
“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having eternal redemption for us” – Hebrews 9:11-12 (KJV).
In patriarchal times priestly functions were fulfilled were fulfilled by heads of families or tribes (Gen. 8:20; 22:13; 33:20). However from the time of Moses, a special priestly class existed in Israel. Priests are separated naturally to God. The high priest’s main function was to officiate on the Day of Atonement ceremonies. He, as well, offered sin offerings. The above process continued until the advent of Christ.
When He appeared, rather than to look for objects like goats and calves to sacrifice, He decided to enter once into the holy place, laid down His body on the altar to obtain eternal redemption for the benefit of mankind. The reason for the offering of His body is clearly stated: “Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings for sin You had no pleasure. Then I said, Behold, I have come- in the volume of the book it is written of Me-To do your will” – Hebrews 10:5-7 (NKJV).
I would not know if you have taken the advantage of this great sacrifice which the Lord offered at the cost of His very life for your eternal bliss. If you are still outside yet, I beseech you to let go all other means you are holding on to which cannot give eternal redemption to embrace His offer. Do not waste this privilege!
Prayer: Father, I realize the worthlessness of other sacrifice and I drop them for the great offer in Christ Jesus.
