“And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.“ – Mark 10:11-12 KJV
Divorce has become a common thing even among children of God. This is however abnormal as Jesus states categorically that divorce is not for Christians. Mark 10:11-12 KJV says
“And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery”.
He stated that what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.
So marriage is a lifetime event unless death separates them (1 Cor 7:39). Besides death, two other reasons sanctioned for separation are where the woman is caught in fornication (Matthew 5:32 ) or she is an unbelieving woman and she chooses to divorce the man (1 Cor 7:15).
The world is changing and it is trying to change the word of God by giving the impression that you can divorce your spouse at will. This is not so as God is the same yesterday, today and forever and His principles remain the same. We should not allow the world to push us outside the word of God. In fact we should ensure that we give good examples to the world by our ways of life.
Hence it is important that we seek the face of God at all times and involve him in choosing a spouse. If we take time to pray to God for guidance when we go on a journey, looking for work or one opportunity or the other, then it is more important that we seek his face when we are about to embark on a journey that will last the rest of our life. Marriage is a journey of lifetime.
Before you go ahead with that partner, please ensure you get direction from God. That old method of seeking God’s face before doing anything still ensures you start well on your journey. It is better to be safe than sorry and regretful.
Prayer: Father, as I look forward to getting married please guide me to choose the bone of my bone and the flesh of my flesh in Jesus name.
