Bible Reading: Ezekiel 18, 19; James 4
“Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” – James 4:5-6 (KJV)
The attitude to put up by any reasonable person who is aware that God can resist him is caution. No one is bigger than the Creator of heaven and earth. The Scripture paints several stories of people who had head-on-collision with God and they were resisted. Just pay a visit to the palace of king Nebuchadnezzar of old, “The king spake, and said, is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The Kingdom is departed from thee… the same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass…” Daniel 4:30-31, 33 (KJV).
God echoes it loudly that among the things He hates, He hates a proud look, (Prov.6:16-17). When you start developing sense of superiority by reason of your achievement, you are actually writing letter to God for resistance and this could be very dangerous. When you are becoming unteachable then, you are treading on danger zone. When you no longer tremble at the word of God, check it, it may be the seed of pride has secretly crept into your life. When because your opinion is not taken you withdraw your contributions in any form and thus hamper the advancement of the kingdom project. All the above and many are indices of pride which could make God resist you.
Dear readers, you shall do yourself a lot of good if you heed the admonition of the scripture and determine to earn the grace of God through humble lifestyle. There is nothing you become or will become that someone, somewhere has not become. There is no top echelons that you attain which someone has not at one time or the other. Be warned! Read that Scripture again: “Or do suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit to be welcome with a jealous love? But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). This is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace (continually) to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).” – James 4:5-6 (Amp)
Prayer: God Almighty remove completely from my life every arrogant seed for me to be able to take the nature of Christ who humbled Himself to the death on the cross. Phil. 2:8. Please God, do not let pride be my ruin on this side of eternity in Jesus name.
