Bible Reading: Ezekiel 35, 36; 2 Peter 1
“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and established in the present truth.” – 2 Peter 1:12 (KJV)
The maxim goes, ‘repetition strengthens memory’. Anything knowledge that is left for long unrevised or unattended to shall before long fizzles out of one’s memory. The people of old understood this clearly well and was one of the reasons they never neglected coming together at any given opportunity they had. “And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread [including the Lord’s Supper] and prayers” – Acts 2:42 (Amp)
The journeys to the mountain and the valleys by the early Apostles was to make sure that the instruction they received from the Lord was passed across to many people and most times they made a return visit to their converts. Why, you may ask was the reason for this? To remind them what they have known so that their labour over them might not be in vain. Scriptural evidences abound of the acts of these faithful followers of Christ of old.
Paul the Apostle explicitly mentioned to the Philippians, “Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, it is a safeguard for you” – Philippians 3:1 (NIV). Jude corroborated the above statement: “Now I want to remind you, though you were fully informed once for all, that the Lord [at one time]…” Jude 5 (Amp). There is need for constant reminder of what we have known of/about the Lord lest we are deceived by the enemy of our soul. Avenue to do this coming together as the Scripture has encouraged us: “Not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” –Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV).
Never get tired of learning or pick offence at the Word of God that comes to you at any given time, it is for your good! You need this as your daily breath if you are to survive the deception around the world now.
Prayer: Oh Lord, remind me all that I know at one time about You which have slipped out of me in Jesus name.
