Bible Reading: Daniel 1, 2; 1 John 4
“Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.” – Daniel 2:16 (KJVS)
In Daniel 2:1, King Nebuchadnezzar dreamt a dream that troubled his Spirit and was unable to sleep. By the morning hours, he had forgotten the troubling dream and called all his advisers to come over and remind him of the dream and also interprete it to him. Well the advisers came in and were asking him for the dream so that they could tell him the interpretation. A few lessons are notable from this story. Firstly, when God wants to favour you, he can give a challenge to a person, a group of people or a nation such that only you could provide the solution. That way, your importance or value cannot be hidden. This was the situation with Daniel. God wanted to elevate him and so gave a troubling dream to the king and made him to forget it such that there was the need to get someone to get the revelation. This revelation was given to Daniel.
Secondly, God is indeed all knowing. He knows everything concerning everyone’s situation. (John 21:17). Thus he knew that Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and forgot it and that none of his advisers will be able to get the revelations. So nothing can be hidden from him. Whether done in secret or in open. No wonder he said we will be judged by even the idle words that we speak! Thirdly, because he knows all things, he can reveal all things to his children. No wonder he says in Jeremiah 33:3 (KJVS), “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” He expects you to call on him and he will reveal secrets not known to many to you. Thus, a man of God was called to pray for a man who was quite rich but sick and all medications had failed him. Then this man of God was called to pray for him. After praying for sometime and there was no response, he asked God for the cause and God revealed to him that the man had committed some crimes which he needed to confess. God revealed part of the crime committed by the sick man which he thought no one knew, to this man of God. Several years before then, the man had a land case with some people and he organized that the key witnesses to the land were drowned by a man and later killed the man who drowned them so that no one would know of his involvement and was able to win the case as all the witnesses had died! He thought no one knew about the case except himself. Sadly, by the time the man of God asked the man to confess his secret things; he said there was none. Then the man of God told the story, the rich sick man asked him to go and never to come back to his house! He saw that his secret had been leaked. Unfortunately he did not repent of his sins. So God can reveal secrets to you if you seek him.
Also, as a child of God nothing is impossible with you. King Nebuchadnezzar’s advisers said it was impossible for any adviser or any man on earth to know another man’s dream when he had not revealed it. Well Daniel was able to get the dream. ( Dan 2:23 ). Fifthly, Daniel spoke with confidence that he would get the revelation from God. He did not doubt at all. In Daniel 2:16 (KJVS), “Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.” He believed that God will reveal the dream to him and indeed, God did!
