Bible Reading: Joel 1, 2, 3, Revelation 5.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” – Revelation 4:11 (KJVS)
All human beings have a limited time to live. It does not matter how long, you will have to die one day. So the journey of life has a limit and everyone should therefore ask himself what he is created to achieve within the short time he is on earth. If you are wondering why you were created or what your purpose on earth should be, the words of Revelation 4:11 (KJVS), “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”, succinctly answers the question. You are created by God for His pleasure. The question is how do you give God pleasure?
You can do so by having a good relationship with Him. When you have an intimate relationship with your father or mother, you know what he or she wants at any point in time and so it becomes easy for you to give that parent pleasure. It’s the same with our God. Spend time with Him by studying his word, praying to him and worshipping him. ( 1 Tim. 2:1-3 ).
When you thank and praise Him, you get Him close to you and He reveals things to you or through you. That’s why David says in Psalm 100:4 (KJVS), “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” It is important that the thanksgiving and praise should be done with your whole heart and body. The mind should be focused on him and not mere lips. Jesus said in John 4:23 (KJVS), “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”
In addition to worship, winning souls is another way of giving God pleasure. This is acceptable in the sight of God (1 Timothy 2:3-4 KJVS).
The way we live day in day out will tell whether we give God pleasure. If we obey him and live a life of holiness, then we will be fulfilling our purpose on earth. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJVS) says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Are you performing your duty as shown in this verse? It’s time for you to give God pleasure by living a life of obedience to him. Obedience is better than sacrifice!
