Bible Reading: Amos 4,5,6; Revelation 7
“Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord , the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.” – Amos 5:14 (KJVS)
A lot of things are happening these days. People are doing all sorts of evil in their quests for money. A lot of young people are concerned about what type of car, house they will have without considering the legitimacy of the source. In so doing, more emphasis is placed on material things at the expense of their soul. But the word of God is quite clear on the situation like this. 2 Timothy 3:1-4,10 (KJVS), says “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;”
All these are happening now as we see people betraying their siblings because of the race for material things. But God warns us to always remember that as Christians we are not part of this world but mere pilgrims. And you should abstain from all these lusts of the flesh. 1 Peter 2:11 (KJVS) enjoins us: “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;” This is why Amos 5:14 (KJVS) admonishes you to “Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord , the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.”
So to live in good conscience and in preparation for the future, you should seek good of fellow beings even when they do not seek your own good. Look for ways of bringing joy, peace, love into the lives of people around you; siblings, friends, employees and colleagues among others. You need to remember that you are living for God and not for anyone. It is a living that focuses on the good of fellow human beings that can have the assurance of the presence of God. And in the presence of God, there is joy even in the midst of storms.
Prayer point:
Father, give me the grace to seek the good of others around me at all times in Jesus name.
