Bible Reading: Jonah 1,2,3,4; Revelation 10
“And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.” – Jonah 3:10 (KJVS)
The nature of man is that we are prone to sin. Our body keeps making demands that are often against the Spirit. Thus Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:15 (KJVS), “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.” So we tend to commit sins sometimes unconsciously because of the demands of the flesh. There are a number of people that have done a lot of things they did not plan to do but within a twinkle of an eye, they come back to their senses and try to make amends.
God recognises this and that’s why He gives us the option to right our wrong. Thus God told a whole nation of Isreal in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJVS), “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Thus God is always ready to forgive our sins particularly when He sees sincerity of our heart. Thus while He wanted to destroy the land of Nineveh, as we read in the book of Jonah, their repentance touched Him and made Him repent of His plan. He said in Jonah 3:10 (KJVS), “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.” As He did to Nineveh, so He is ready to do to us as long as we are ready to repent of our sins. Thus He sends his invitation to all mankind in Matthew 11:28 (KJVS), “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
What is that sin, transgression or iniquity that has held you bound? It is time to shed it and focus on God. If only you can repent of your ways and make a fresh commitment to him, He is ready to hear and forgive you. That’s why He says in Proverbs 28:13 (KJVS), “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Nobody knows when the exact time of his death will be but we all know it’s certain and that it’s closer today than when we first gave our lives! It is therefore wise that you choose the path of wisdom and put a stop to that besetting sin in your life today.
Prayer Point:
Father, I have come to your throne for mercy this morning, please forgive me the sin (please name them) and enable me to live above them from today in Jesus name.
