Bible Reading: Zechariah 9,10,11,12; Revelation 20
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20:15 (KJVS)
Every reader of this devotional must have read a book, whether physical or e-book, at one time or the other. A book is a medium for recording information. Those information will remain there as a form of record keeping. So anyone who picks it can read whatever has been written. It does not matter how long the book had been written, what is essential is that the records are in it. The bible, which itself is a book, has the record of what God Almighty wants us to know. It contains records of some events that occurred over several thousands of years ago and today we read the account and they remain fresh in our memories.
Similarly, the bible tells us that accounts are being kept of all our activities on earth and these records will be opened for our assessment after our death. Revelation 20:12 (KJVS) says, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” This shows clearly that all our acts will be recorded and an appraisal of our performance while on earth will be done! There will be different books and your activities will determine which book will have your name. Is it the book of life or the other books. The book of life will have names of those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and live in obedience to his word. Apostle Paul says in Philippians 4:3 (KJVS), “And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.”
The Lord Jesus also told us that only those who overcome the world by their obedience to him will have their names in the book of life. Revelation 3:5 (KJVS) records the sayings of our Lord Jesus, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
Anyone whose name is not written in the book of life will be damned for ever as stated in Revelation 20:15 (KJVS), “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”. I pray that your name will not be blotted out of the book of life in Jesus name.
Prayer point:
Father, remove far from me, anything that will cause my name to be blotted out of the book of Life.
