Bible Reading: Genesis 5,6,7; Matthew 3.
“And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” – Matthew 3:2 (KJV)
Before John the Baptist came with this totally different message, the world had its way of living and doing things. But God was about to bless man with the promise made long ago. A king, saviour, messiah is coming, and man must change their mind to accommodate His way of doing things.
Repenting involves changing the way you used to think and do things. It’s a personal decision that comes from within by the help of God. It also involves confession of sins before God and a vow to live according to His rules as dictated by heaven, and led by the King, Jesus.
God will forgive anyone of any sin, provided he genuinely repented. This is because only the genuinely repented are now qualified to receive His Spirit and the things of God. A lot of people came to John and got baptized in river Jordan, confessing their sins, including religious leaders (Matthew 3:6-7).
Jesus is still receiving people who are willing to enter into His kingdom. All you need do is stretch out your hands and ask Him to help you like Peter did, and ask for forgiveness of sin and acknowledge Him as your Lord and Saviour.
