Bible Reading: Genesis 8,9; Matthew 4
“And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread” – Matthew 4:3 (KJV).
Temptation is one thing Christians will have to deal with for life. The reason is that the tempter, Satan, does not give up easily. He continues to find in-road into many Christians so as to accuse them before God and make them drop their guard.
To tempt means to look for weakness. The enemy will always come around to check for weaknesses in you like he did to Jesus. If Jesus, the Word could be tempted by Satan, then any body could be tempted too. If fact, he went as far quoting the word to the Word! Just having a knowledge of the word of God may not be enough in times like this. Only the Word you have received and believed to the point of conviction can make you overcome temptations from Satan himself.
When I first became a Christian I found myself in so many uncomfortable situations, especially in my place of work. I got the job, after many months of searching, one week after I became born again. I asked God to help me keep my vow to walk according to His ways. I made sure I give second thought to everything before I do them especially in an environment like my first work place where money was flying around unaccounted for everyday. From the little scriptures I got that period, I got to understand that God owns the whole world and as a son of God I need not steal as My Father can give me anything I ask for according to His will. This ruled my mind all through and God saw me through. I was mocked by many, but I stood my ground. God gave me peace in the midst of it all.
The enemy tries to make us sin so that he could accuse us before God. But thank God for the Word. David said in Psalm 119:11 (KJV), “thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Meditating on the word helps birth conviction in our spirit which makes us stand whenever the devil comes to test us. How often do you meditate on the word?
