Bible Reading: Genesis 15,16,17; Matthew 6:1-17
“Look unto Abraham your father…..” – Isaiah 51:2 (KJV)
When I was growing up as a little boy I noticed something about my parents. When giving out instructions on what to do, they were nearly always giving few of us, the children, more work and instructions. In a family as large as the one I came from I didn’t understand why. So one day I asked my mum, why are you always giving me work and more work to do when others are not even engaged with anything? Her reply was one I will remember for life. She said, “because you never argue or frown nor complain. You are very easy to work with.”
Our heavenly Father too loves people who obey Him instantly. Abraham never questioned God whenever He was given an instruction. He immediately obeyed. No wonder he got visited again and again by God, even though there were other people on earth, the same way my parents will always look for me even when others were around. He was instructed to circumcise his household, and the bible said in Genesis 17:26-27 (KJV), “In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ismael his son. And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised.”
Most of the challenges christians face today is as a result of disobedience to instructions given by God Himself directly to man, or through His prophets. Many instructions come from the altar every day, and whoever first steps in or dives at it will see God’s manifest presence.
Delayed obedience can be risky because Satan comes in and tries to help you rationalize the situation in your mind, thereby conflicting with what you received in your heart. Naaman almost missed out on his miracle as he rationalized the river he was instructed to wash in (2 Kings 5:1-14).
Abraham never for once conferred with flesh and blood, nor rationalized instructions from God. No wonder we are still enjoying the blessings of Abraham. Make it a goal this year to dive at whatever instruction you receive from the alter and as you do, you will see God in action in your life like never before.
Prayer: Father, endue me with the Spirit of obedience after the order of your Son, Jesus Christ, and your servant, Abraham.
