Bible Reading: Exodus 16,17,18; Matthew 18
“Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:4 (KJV)
Everyborn again child of God has the potential to be great. But greatness in the kingdom comes with humility, obedience and service. Everyone desires to be great, but only those who have made the decision to become like a child in the course of kingdom service will end up great.
Children first learn to live in obedience and love. We begin as little children in the kingdom, learning obedience to our father and so learning to live in love and unity with one another; for we are not only members of a new kingdom but of a new family as well (Ephsians 2:19).
Becoming like little children involves becoming humble, unpretentious, dependent, weak, teachable, and willing to trust the heavenly Father. Trusting the heavenly father like a child trust his father is key to living in the kingdom. This is so because the kingdom of God exist wherever His rulership is acknowledged. Jesus established Gods kingdom first in His own heart by putting Himself completely under the authority of God’s will, even to the point of accepting a terrible death which He did not want to die (Matthew 26:38,29).
Jesus always did those things His Father asked Him to do, and His Father was pleased with Him (Matthew 17:5). No wonder He ended up as the greatest man who ever lived. Like Jesus, all who desire to be great must follow the child-like steps of Jesus Christ in humility, obedience, trust, love, be teachable, etc, to the end.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the grace to walk in childlike obedience after the order of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
