Bible Reading: Exodus 19,20; Matthew 18:19-35
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” – 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV).
The Israelites were the first people God chose and called “peculiar.” To be peculiar means among others, to be strange, unusual, different, out of the ordinary, unnatural, etc. Their peculiarity came from God. They are a Holy nation, their holiness coming from God.
But to seal this peculiarity, holiness, and royalty, Israel had a part to play. God said in Exodus 19:5 (KJV), “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:” Obeying God’s voice or commandment is key to manifesting the nature God had called His people into.
Jesus is the key to manifesting your peculiarity today. But it starts with God, the father, drawing you to Him. Jesus said in John 6:44a (KJV), “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him:” You must come to Jesus who God sent to show the way to others.
Moreso, You must follow His commandments. Just as the Israelites were told to obey God’s voice and His commandments given in Exodus chapters 20, we are to follow Jesus pattern and the leading of the Spirit, deliberately putting God first in everything we do.
