Bible Reading: Exodus 20,21; Matthew 19
“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,” – Matthew 19:4 (KJV)
The beginning of any thing is very important. In it you see the reason or purpose of a thing. For instance, God made man in the beginning so that he could rule as God’s appointed magistrate to the earth. He was to be the earthly authority of the kingdom of God. It is has not changed, God’s plan is still the same.
In the same vein, God’s purpose for instituting marriage has not changed. The same way HE mentioned it in Genesis 2:24, Jesus repeated it to the Pharisees in Matthew 19:4-6. But what obtains today is different. Ecclesiastes 7:29 (GNT) says, “This is all that i have learned: God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated.” Man has sought out so many inventions in the area of marriage that are not originally God’s plan.
Behind the confusion and challenges in many marriages is the devil. But Christians have been empowered to overcome whatever the devil throws our way. Sadly, not many Christians are overcoming in this area. If only we can simply look at the beginning of marriage in the bible and what God said. As long as God has said it, the devil will fight to keep that reality away from you unless you war with the words you have seen and believed in God’s word.
The things of God may look simple and foolish, but in it lies your answer and peace. Go back to the beginning, look at the first marriage. Look at the men of old and how peaceful their marriages were and make up your mind to remain in that old path for therein lies your answer to the challenges in marriage.
Action Plan: Take a look at the marriages in the bible, observe the way the men of old handled their homes and the way the wives behaved. Write out God’s instructions for husbands and wives, and how to handle children as observed in the bible and work with them.
