BIBLE READING: Exodus 29, 30; Mathew 21: 24-46
“And thou shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office” – Exodus 30:30 (KJV).
The call into the priestly ministry is a high calling and a great privilege. Under the Old Testament, the priestly ministry is an exclusive reserve for Aaron’s family. They need to be anointed and consecrated for this office and ministry. The priest burn incenses and makes the animal sacrifice for the sins of the people.
At the advent of Christ, a new order was introduced. The priests of the New Testament are no longer to burn incense and sacrifice animal. By one sacrifice, Jesus perfected the atonement for sin. The New Testament believers are company of priests, called, washed, justified, anointed and consecrated for the priestly ministry.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” – 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV). Every believer is privileged under the new covenant to serve in the priestly office. The priestly garment is the righteousness of Christ inputted in us. Our duties today in the priestly office are:
- To intercede for sinners
- Offer sacrifice of praise and worship to God
- Intercede and supplicate for the saints and to serve in the body of Christ.
- To reach out to the lost world in the ministry of reconciliation.
What a great privilege to serve as priests under our Great High Priest Jesus.
Prayer: Lord thank you for the privilege of priesthood.
