BIBLE READING: Numbers 3,4; Mark 3:19-35.
“Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the first born in Isreal, both man and beast; mine shall they be: I am the Lord” –Numbers 3:13 (KJV)
The principle of “God first” runs through the bible. God cannot take a subordinate position. He desires to be Lord of all and so should not be given a second position.
The scripture says to acknowledge him in all our ways (Proverb 3:6). As Christians, we should learn to consider God first and put him first in all we do. This involves giving him the first hour of the day and the first position of obedience and submission. It is as God takes the first place in our lives that every other thing begin to fall in place. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” – Mathew 6:33 (KJV).
God demanded a ram each from all the families of Isreal to be slain and the blood at the lintels of the doors so that the angel of death that would kill all the first born in Egypt will pass over the children of Isreal. By that blood that was shared, a figure and typology of the blood of Jesus, he redeemed all the firstborn of the children of Isreal for himself. So all the first born of the children of Israel are his. The principle of “God first” applies today in every aspect of our lives. It should reflect in our thoughts, our decisions, our choices, our actions, our obedience and in our finances.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to always put you first in my life.
