BIBLE READING: Numbers 7,8; Mark 4:21-43
“Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, when thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick” – Numbers 8:2 (KJV).
The seven lamps of the old covenant represent the Holy Spirit. The duty of the seven lamps was to give illumination to the shewbread. The bread represents the word of God that nourishes and refreshes the believer. As the lamps on the lampstands gives light to the table of shewbread, so does the Holy Spirit give light and illumination to the written word – the logos. This light is required for revelation and insight into the word to enable understanding. That is why the Holy Spirit is the teacher. He gives revelation and understanding to the believer as the believer studies the written word.
The scriptures are sealed without the Holy Spirit. One cannot understand the scripture or hear God through the written word without the light from the Holy Spirit. “It is the spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” – John 6:63 (KJV). It is the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that gives understanding. As one studies the scriptures by the help of the Holy Spirit, he is able to go beyond the letters to the Rhema by the help of the holy spirit who illuminates the word in the heart.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit grant me divine illumination of the word.
