BIBLE READING: Numbers 9, 10, 11; Mark 5: 1-22
“And they came to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind, and they were afraid” – Mark 5:15 (KJV).
Satan came with his three fold agenda namely:
- To steal
- To kill
- To destroy
He steals people’s joy, peace, health, wealth and happiness. He kills relationships, Marriages and wealth. He destroys careers, businesses and homes.
On the contrary, Jesus came to give life in abundance. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and to restore freedom to the captives. Sin, Satan and his agents keep people in bondage. The salvation that Jesus offers brings, not only freedom from sin, but also liberation from satan and from all the consequences of sin. These consequences include sickness, curses, poverty, death and servitude, all these were taken care of by Jesus on the cross to set man free. The reason he left heaven and took on flesh was to take man’s place, to pay the price for redemption and to completely liberate the sinner from the chains of satan.
By his redemptive work the hold and the authority of satan over man’s life was destroyed and freedom was secured for man. As the sinful man puts his faith in the finished works of Jesus, he gains access to the saving faith and grace. This freedom is available to all who will believe in Jesus. He is the way and the truth that sets free. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” – John 8:32 (KJV).
Whom Jesus makes free, he makes free indeed. “If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” John 8:36 (KJV). Jesus does not only set free, he makes free.
Prayer: Help me to stand fast in the liberty whereby you have made me free.
