“The oath which he sware to our father Abraham” – Luke 1:73 (KJV)
Our God is a covenant keeping God. When He swears an oath He can never go back to His word. God swore an oath to Abraham by Himself. “For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself” – Hebrews 6:13 (KJV). The immutability of this oath is incontestable and carry a divine seal that cannot be broken. What God swore to Abraham is what Zacharias the priest and Father of John the Baptist was calling into remembrance. Call in fulfilment of His oath to humanity has raised a horn of salvation from the root of David (Luke 1:69). The birth of Christ is God’s introduction of His mercy to humanity and a remembrance of His holy covenant which is His oath He swore to Abraham. “Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs off promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:” – Hebrews 6:17 (KJV). Jesus was the bridge God used to connect the Gentiles back to Him and to Abraham’s blessing. He redeemed us from the curse of the Law by being made a curse and hanged on a tree (the punishment of the curse). This He did “That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” – Galatians 3:14 (KJV). The promised blessing to Abraham is fourfold.
- Abraham is blessed by God
- He will multiply His seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand of the sea shore
- Through Abrahams’ seed shall all the Nations of the earth be blessed.
- His seed shall possess the gates of his enemies.
This is what have come on the Gentiles and inherited in Christ. Our redemption in Christ entitles us to these blessings as heirs and joint heirs with Christ as heirs of promise.
Prayer: Father thank you for the redemption you gave me through Christ.
