“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.” – Mark 14:38 KJV
There are several things contending for our attention at all times. Home, health, job, business, relationships, finance, faith and several others pose challenges to us regularly and some of these require immediate attention while others could be deferred for some time. In the midst of all these, several temptations come up. Imagine someone looking for job for several years and only to be faced with a request for fornication in exchange for the job.
If such a person is not well grounded in his/her faith in God, there is the tendency for him/her to fall. The Lord Jesus understands our weaknesses , hence he admonished us in Mark 14:38 KJV “Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.”
Ones reaction usually stems from experience, present condition, belief and expectations. The dominant factor will chart the next line of action. This is why Jesus asks us to pray without ceasing. This will inculcate in our subconscious the supremacy of our God over everything or situation. Besides, prayer helps us to get closer to our creator, acknowledge his faithfulness, recognize his sovereignty, depend on him rather than the creation.
Prayer: Father, give me the enablement to seek your face at all times and the grace to live above temptations in Jesus name.
