Bible Reading: 11 Kings 1, 2, 3; Luke 24: 1-27
“Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer nor take up their names into my lips.” – Psalm 16:4 (KJV)
When we possess the perfect understanding of who God is, that He rules over everything and everyone, we shall not be moved when unnecessary appeal is made to lure us away from the Owner of the universe. The Psalmist was clear in his submission of what shall befall those who follow other gods in this world, their sorrow shall unmistakably increase no matter who the fellow is. New Living Translation version of the Bible renders it, “Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods. I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods” – Psalm 16:4
Elijah, a mighty instrument in the hands of God, condemned this act in the life of King Ahaziah when he sent emissaries to Ekron to go and enquire of Baalzebub as a result of his sickness. At the prompting of God through His angel, Elijah met the messengers who informed them that, Ahaziah shall not come down from the sick bed (2 Kings 1:2-6). God is jealous of His name. Recall that in His commandment, He had said to the Israelites that, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt make no graven image. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God…” – Exodus 20:3-5.
It was with this understanding that made Elijah gave the verdict against the erring king. You are therefore implored never to allow anything to keep you away from the living God. It must never be heard of you and your household even in its slightest form.
Prayer: Everlasting Father, I receive grace to remain with You all through my life in Jesus name.
