Bible Reading: 2 Kings 13, 14; John 2
“Then answered the Jews and said unto him, what sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou does these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” – John 2:18-19 (KJV)
No one likes to see what he has tirelessly laboured upon get destroyed anyhow more so when years were spent before such project was achieved. Many who have had the unfortunate experience of fire disaster could attest to this most especially when they could not salvage valuables like certificates and some vital documents, the sorrow is always very deep in their heart. The Jews who were always at logger head with Jesus and chose not to understand him asked, “what right do you have to do these things? The Jewish leaders demanded. If you have authority from God, show us miraculous sign to prove it. All right, Jesus replied, destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up” John 2:18-19 (NLT). Their lack of understanding beclouded them to know what the Lord was saying when the mention of His sacrificial death was made. They were only looking for signs to prove the authority He had which made Him drive away those who were trading in the temple.
Christ, however, let them know that, the only available sign was the destruction of His temple (body) which they did not understand. This destruction actually came up on the cross of Calvary when He emptied Himself, He said it is finished. Do you know that the destruction of the body of Christ brought about the salvation of mankind? Have you also appropriated that into your life? If not, the essence of the destruction of His temple which has long been accomplished shall be in vain.
Prayer: Saviour, help me not to waste the provision You have made for my salvation.
