Bible Reading: 1 Chron. 7, 8, 9; John 6:25-48
“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” – Psalm 84:10 (KJV)
The Psalmist means that a thousand days spent elsewhere is incomparable to a day spent in the presence of God no matter how favourable and pleasurable the circumstance might be. The love of David as a servant to his Master made him to prefer to be tied in service to Him rather than to occupy his days with frivolities. He prefers to remain in God’s love, behold His glory and engage his precious time in the service of the Most High in the courts of the LORD. The way and manner some of us berate and flout the instructions of the ushers today in our churches is appalling, yet the work they do now was the choice of David which he considers the highest rather than the best place among the wicked people.
David was not the only one in the Scripture who preferred courts to be his duty post. The account of the Korahites opens us to this truth: “Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son Korah, and his kinsmen of his father’s house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of service, keepers of the thresholds of the Tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the Lord, keepers of the entrance” – 1 Chronicles 9:19 (Amp). You see they settled with what their fathers began! Please, note that many of the characters mentioned in 1 Chronicles 9 had a duty post from being a leader to the gatekeeper. This is amazing!
Have you also located your duty post in the house of God? Is He asking you to keep the gate, wash the toilet, oversee the children, work with the protocol etc.? You need not delay time or change it to a more ‘convenient’ or ‘glorifying’ duty for that may not count if you are not sent there by the Owner of the work. Your presence in that unit may bring havoc. Let it not be heard that there is nothing you can do. Locate your duty post today and stay put there rejoicing in the Lord!
Prayer: Eternal Father, open my eyes to the area where you want me to serve for the rest of my life in Jesus name.
