Bible Reading: Psalm 10, 11 &12; Acts 19:1-20
“Why do you stand afar off, O Lord? Why do you hide Yourself, ( vieling Your eyes) in times of trouble (distress and desperation)” Psalm 10:1 (Amplified)
Have you ever been in a situation where you needed help so much yet nothing seems to be forthcoming? Are there times when you have called out to God in times of trouble and yet no response? You are not alone. Many feel the same way as you. But how did those in bible times handle situations like these?
David was a man who was haunted by a King due to jealousy on the part of the latter. He was pursued round the entire Israel and beyond by King Saul, yet God kept him. There were times when David felt he was alone, but continued to encourage himself in the Lord. He survived all the attacks launched by King Saul through God’s protective Hand.
The Jews in Esther’s time where almost at the point of being exterminated from the earth, but God showed up. Mordecai and Esther had to gather the whole Jews in a fast. In the end, God, who appeared to be so far, showed up. Wicked Haman’s fate was described by Psalms 10:2, “The wicked in pride and arrogance hotly pursue and persecute the poor; let them be taken in the schemes which they have devised.”
God has not changed. He gave King Saul enough time to changed his ways. Haman too, had the time to change his wicked plan toward the Jews but he refused. At the end, God showed up. King Saul lost his throne, and Hamaan was hanged on the same gallows he wanted to hang righteous Mordecai.
God is not afar off. Evil continue today unabated because we live in a wicked world and “because sentence against evil work is not executed speedily” Ecclesiastics 8:11a (Amplified). But God is not slow. He just wants His beloved man to change from his evil ways.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your patience and loving kindness which brought me into Your Kingdom.
