Bible Reading: Psalm 57, 58 & 59; Romans 4
“Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him” Isaiah 51:2 (KJV)
The story of Abraham is one we must get fully acquainted with and teach our children and children’s children. Abraham’s trust and believe in God is one that still blesses people and will continue to bless many till the end of time. No wonder the Holy Spirit inspired men to write down these happenings. “For whatsoever things were written aforetime for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” Romans 15:4 (KJV).
Faith is a demonstration of confidence in God and His Word. Abraham demonstrated this when he was commanded by God in Genesis 12:1 (KJV), “…Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee:” God took him on a journey. Faith is embarking on a journey with God, as demonstrated by Abraham.
This journey with God took him to so many places. He met many people, including Abimelech and his household where he prayed for all the barren women in the house of Abimelech. At the same time, his substances increased. God gave him a new name and made a promise to him that he would be a father of many nations, that his wife, Sarah, would bear a son (Genesis 17). Abraham was ninety-nine years old at that time.
God visited Sarah and she conceived and gave birth at ninety years of age. Faith in God brought them there. Romans 4:19-21 says, “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deafness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith , giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded, that what he had promised, he was able to perform.” Abraham held on to the promise, the circumstances surrounding him notwithstanding, giving glory to God. Faith pleases God.
What promises have you believed and received from God. Hold on to it! Never give up on God. Rather, continually give praises unto Him like King Hezekiah also did until the word became a reality (Isaiah 38). When God says it, it is real in the spirit realm, but faith is needed to make it a reality in this realm.
