Bible Reading: Psalm 60, 61 & 62; Romans 5
“Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man” Psalm 60:11 (KJV)
We live in a wicked world ruled by the wicked one, Satan the devil. Ever since his fall from heaven to earth, wickedness has been on the increase on earth. John saw this coming in Revelation 12:12 (KJV), “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabited of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he hath but a short time.” The devil wants to make sure he takes as many as he could before his time. But as for those who have decided to stay with God he makes life difficult for them.
Wickedness, more often than not, is directed at especially God’s people everywhere. Jesus warned his disciples that in this life they will have tribulation (John 16:33). Reason for God’s people being singled out is that Satan wants to make sure he perverts all in the world, and for those who refused to follow the world’s way, he brings trouble to them. But God has vowed to help and has always helped his people who call on Him in times of trouble, since bible times.
Trouble came to Daniel because of his service to God. For refusing to stop praying to his God he was thrown into a lion’s den. God delivered him as the lions would not eat him (Daniel 6). Daniel’s colleagues, the three Hebrews, also refused to bow to another god and for this were thrown into a fiery furnace (Daniel 3). But God rescued them when they called on him. God helped the likes of Joseph, Queen Esther and the Jews led by Mordecai from the devilish agent, Haman. Even Paul and Silas were rescued from prison too while praising God in the midst of trouble. Paul even told king Agrippa that it is by the help of God he continued in His service (Acts 26:22). And many others.
God is still helping His people today. Wherever you sense or face trouble just call on Him and He will rescue you. Remember, God’s people and His church has always, and will always outlive its haters.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your help in all our affairs. Kindly continue to fortify the hedge around your people, and thank You for preparing a table before us in the presence of our enemies.
