“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2: 7(KJV)
What a great contradiction that the creator of heaven and earth was in the world and no room was found to comfortably deliver Him. This is indeed a case of rejection. Isaiah 53: 2b-3a (KJV) “…..; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire. He was despised and rejected of men…….” What beauty can be seen in a new born child wrapped in a swaddling clothes laid in a manger? He took the lowest base of human existence to enter the world he created. Isaiah 53:3 called Him a man of sorrow. Right from his birth he began to suffer deprivation. This rose to the peak when at his judgment in the court of Pontius Pilate, the Jews rejected him for a criminal. He came into the world denied of comfort and was rejected and at his death he was humiliated, rejected and brutalised, yet he came as the saviour of humanity. He left his rainbow circled throne in heaven to suffer such rejection and humiliation in order to deliver our total redemption i.e. to save us to the uttermost.
How have you reciprocated this great demonstration of love and humility? Are you grateful enough in your love for him? A song says “I gave my life for thee, my precious blood I shed………….. I gave my life for thee, what hast thou given for me?
We need to ask ourselves this question daily even as Christians.
Prayer: Father I pray for your grace to truly comprehend the Love and suffering of Christ Jesus in order to consummate my salvation. In Jesus Name.
