BIBLE READING: PROVERBS 8, 9; 2CORINTHIANS 3
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” 2 corinthians 3:17 (KJV)
Sin puts man in bondage. There is nothing man can do on his own or of himself to be truly made free from sin and its consequences. Religion, on itself, lacks the power to liberate man. Religious observance of the laws puts man in the bondage of legalism.
Man continued to struggle in sin and bondage to the flesh, the world and satanic forces despite his efforts to overcome sin and its consequences. God in his love sent his only begotten son to free man from bondage and to deal with sin and its consequences. He came to pay the price of sin and to free man from bondage. Jesus took man’s sins, sickness, curses, poverty and death so that the sinful and fallen man can enjoy the glorious liberty of sons of God. Jesus became the substitute for man so that he can bring righteousness and liberation to man. As the sinner embraces the new life that Jesus offers, he is made free from sin and its penalties.
Believers liberty is only enjoyed through faith and knowledge of the finished work of Christ and his standing based on the redemptive work. Lack of knowledge keeps man in bondage but the truth liberates. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” John 8:32 (KJV). It also takes knowledge to remain free or to maintain the freedom that Jesus gives. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” Galatians 5:1 (KJV).
Prayer: I receive grace to stand in the liberty in Christ Jesus.
