BIBLE STUDY: PROVERBS 30, 31; 2 CORINTHINAS 11:1-16
“Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings” Proverbs 31:3 (KJV)
The above scriptural quotation is not a gender issue. It could as well apply to ladies. The message is that one should not give oneself to carnal traits or to immorality. It not only applies to giving oneself to men or women, it equally warns against giving oneself to anything that has destructive tendency or addictive power.
There are many things people give themselves to, such things include drug, alcohol, immorality, food and materialism. These things tend to control the people, and eventually ruin their destiny.
Addiction to things destroys many people created with glorious destiny. It makes one to lose focus and self control. In my undergraduate days, I had a course mate and roommate that became a victim of addiction to immorality. He so much gave himself to women that he lost focus and grip of his academics. He once told me that he will sleep with or have sex with at least one hundred ladies before he can settle down to marry. What a dirty vision and goal to pursue in life.
I preached the gospel to him severally but he refused to listen instead, he tried to influence me negatively to no avail. He tried bringing young girls to our room in the hostel to mess up with them, that was his passion. He spent his time outside school in clubs and parties. This made him loose focus in his studies. He eventually dropped out of the university because he failed again and again. A very bright and promising young engineering student dropped out of school because he gave himself to women. Some destroy their marriages because they give themselves to strange women or to alcohol.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to give myself continually to prayer and the word.
