BIBLE READING: SONG OF SOLOMON 6, 7, 8; GALATIANS 4
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts, crying, Abba Father” Galatians 4:6 (KJV)
Not everyone created by God can lay claim to sonship. We are all creatures of God formed in his image. At fall, man lost the image of God and was cut off from God. At redemption, God restored the believer, not as mere creature, but as sons. New birth raises man’s status from creaturehood to sonship, then heirship and joint heirs with Christ. This gives the new creature the right to cry, “Abba Father”, or the right of sonship with all the privileges and benefits of father-son-relationship.
The bible says in John 1:12 (KJV), “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” This power to become or the right of sonship enables believers to fellowship with God as members of same family. So the Spirit of sonship is the spirit that rules God’s family, it is the Spirit of love, of power and of sound mind.
The Spirit of sonship is the Spirit of Christ at work in the believer. It is a Spirit of responsibility and privileges or rights. This Spirit unites the believer with Christ.
“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:13 (KJV). Through Christ, we both have access by one Spirit unto the father.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the privilege of sonship.
