BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 9, 10; EPHESIANS 3
“That Christ may dwell in your heart by faith, that ye, being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length, and depth and height” Ephesians 3:17-18 (KJV).
It is possible to be in Christ and not be rooted firmly. Just like many plants do not have firm root, the same may be applicable to the Christian faith. Some people embrace the Christian faith but fail to take root. To take root will require commitment to prayer and to the word. It will demand consistent and intimate fellowship or communion with God. Any Christian who fails to take root can be likened to a house built on the sand. Such faith or love cannot stand the test on time.
“And everyone that hearth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand” Matthew 7:26 (KJV).
To take root will demand obedience, discipline, patience, persistence and commitment. To take root is a process not an event. It is a process of discipleship. It will demand consistent followership and obedience. When a Christian takes root, he becomes stable. The following are some benefits of being rooted and grounded in Christ.
- Stability
- Fruitfulness
- Freshness
- Durability or longevity
- Usefulness – Relevance
- Health
- Access to blessings
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to be rooted and grounded in you.
