…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 06/10/2020

Bible Reading: Isaiah 26 & 27: Philippians 2

“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: [8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:” Philippians 2:7-9 (KJV).

Jesus Christ came He stooped to conquer. He became victorious through humility. The king of glory, The I Am That I Am, The Prince of Peace, The Bright and Morning Star, The Lion of the tribe of Judah, He in whom dwells the fullness of Godhead bodily and the King of Kings descended from heaven and came on earth and put away His personality, position and power and took the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men in order to be counted as one of the brethren.

He was led in humiliation through the streets of Jerusalem to Golgotha carrying a heavy wooden cross, flogged and disgraced by His creation in order to satisfy the requirement for our redemption. He paid the price of my sin and your sin with so much humiliation. My hearts bleeds and I feel the pangs of His suffering eating into me as I pen down this piece. What a humiliation suffered to reach out for me and welcome me into the bosom of His father and my God. He left His rainbow circled throne in heaven to save me and you, bearing the shame of the death of the cross – what a humility. It is no wonder the bible said concerning Him in Hebrews 12:2 (KJV), “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

He endured our limitation and human contradictions. He endured our failures and inconsistencies. He endured our spiritual blindness and deficiency in knowledge. He endured our foolishness and deception. He endured our haughtiness and arrogance. He endured our overbearing attitude and self-centeredness. Jesus was humility personified. This the type of humility He intended us to live with, hence Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:5 (KJV), “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

The king of Kings descended from heaven to be flogged and scourged by His creation to save that which He created that has been taken captive by a rebel creature that fell from heaven. His humiliation beat Satan hands down. He was a complete contrast to the prideful and arrogant Satan, hence the devil couldn’t see through to know that Christ has come to deliver him a technical knockout through humility. His humility was so astonishing and perplexing that Satan could not comprehend. Humility is in light and pride is in darkness. When light comes darkness can never comprehend it. The humility of Jesus Christ brought Him greatness beyond human comprehension.

As Christians, it is expected that we have the mind of Christ “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ” 1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV)

Prayer: Father, pour upon me the spirit of humility so I can live a victorious Christian life.
