Bible Reading: Jeremiah 12, 13, 14; 2 Timothy 1
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity” 2 Timothy 2:19 (KJV).
If we as humans know our children, how much more should the Creator know those that are His. God has a special identity mark that separates His children from others. God will always put a mark or seal on His Children. When Israel marched out of Egypt to undertake their journey in the wilderness God sealed them in the cloud by day and marked them out in the knight by fire, leaving a warning on them: ‘… Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm’ (Psalm 105:15).
God over time uses the seal to separate others from His own. As believers the seal of God is upon us which guarantees divine identity and protection. “Who hath also sealed us and, given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts” 2 Corinthians 1:22 (KJV). The release of the Holy Spirit upon believers is the seal of God upon their life. “in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the holy Spirit of promise,” Ephesians 1:13 (KJV).
The seal of the holy Spirit is the mark of identity placed on every true believer that guarantees us divine protection and confers on us a covenant of exemption from evil. Right from the day we believed and accepted Christ into our life we have been marked out by God as untouchables through the seal of the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” Ephesians 4:30 (KJV).
However, the seal will remain enforceable as far as we depart from sin. Sin is the enemy’s weapon against us to remove the power of the seal from us. God’s seal on us is a hedge of protection. Satan testified to this fortification in Job 1:10a (KJV) concerning Job, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him. And about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?” From this scripture we have the knowledge that as God’s children we are hedged in as represented by the seal of the Spirit of God. However, sin exposes this formidable hedge around us. The hedge can be broken by sin, “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it, and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him” Ecclesiastes 10:8 (KJV).
We are guaranteed divine protection and coverage in Christ when we practice a lifestyle of holiness. Without the Holy Spirit no one can achieve a holy living. Only those that have accepted Christ as their Lord and Saviour are entitled to be filled by the Holy Spirit. My dear reader I therefore enjoin you to surrender your life to Him in order to enjoy the sealing of the Spirit.
Prayer: O Lord my God strengthen me in my inner man to live righteously before you.
