DAILY BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 50; Hebrews 8
“Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of host: for thy days is come, the time that I will visit thee.” Jeremiah 50:31 (KJV)
I know that when we read this passage, we would see that the passage is speaking to Babylon and I agree with you too, it is. But, that doesn’t take away a lesson that should be reinforced in our hearts. God is against the proud. God is against the Proud. It is not an error that I have written it twice. It is something that the Lord never fails to emphasize whenever there is an opportunity.
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Lord, that is what David said. Pride is detestable before the Lord. The Lord says it again and again that he hates the proud. Are you proud, is pride in your heart? We must stand up against this foe in our lives. “…I am against thee, O thou most proud.” In James, the scriptures say that “…God is opposed to the proud…” we cannot prosper in life if God is against us.
We have listened to numerous messages on pride, but it is not harmful to hear just one more. Pride goes before a fall. God refers to Babylon as proud and so he stands against them. I know that this passage speaks of Babylon, but it speaks of you too. It speaks of a nation, but it speaks of you too. We must watch out for pride in our lives. Verse 32 says “and the most proud shall stumble and fall, and no one shall raise him up…” this is the fate of the proud.”
We must deal decisively with pride in our lives that we may not stand against God.
Prayer: Dear lord, reveal pride in my life and take it away by your grace in Jesus Christ name.
