DAILY BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 35, 36; 2 Peter 1
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity.” 2 Peter 1:5-7 (KJV)
You and I have come to God in faith, we have faith. Now, we must begin the process of addition. Now we must move forward. We know that faith without works is dead, now we must begin to consider the things that must be added to faith to ensure that we do not have a dead faith. This is not just some nice talk or some Christian counsel, these are necessities for the survival of our faith.
The Apostle Peter says that we must give “all diligence”. It is like saying that we must give our all, to do whatever it takes. It is that important. These additions to faith require all our diligence. We must give it all, that was the apostle’s admonition. Have you been diligent in growing your faith? This is practical. We must begin today to pay attention to faith and to commit our all to the growth of our faith.
The mistake is to think that what we have is enough. But we see a gradual progression of important things to add to our faith. We must consider these things one after the other. As Christians we must be honest and seek constant improvement in our faith and the apostle tells us just what we need to do. He goes on to say in the next verse (8) that “If these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When we choose by our lack of diligence not to grow in this way, we choose also to be unfruitful and we know that “…every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” Matthew 3:10b (KJV). Let us get about adding to our faith.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I have not been very diligent in growing my faith, please help me in Jesus Christ name.
