DAILY BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 37, 38, 39; 2 Peter 2
“And he said unto me, son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.” Ezekiel 37:3 (KJV)
This passage always serves as a source of inspiration to me as I consider my own life and the many seemingly dead cases that I have had over the years and how I feel this question has been asked me over and over again. For you too, that question is posed as you give thought to your life and the situations that surround it. Can these bones live again? How would you answer the Lord?
The Lord had led the Prophet Ezekiel to a valley of dried bones. It was the stark representation of death. There could exists no better example of death than a valley filled with dry bones. There the Lord asked the incredulous question. “Can these bones live again?” The answer to this question is incontrovertible. It is an emphatic NO! With dead bodies, we have seen miracles, so we can say that they might live with a miracle occurs. With fresh bones, we might argue blindly that they also might live, but, dry bones have no hope. That is the hopeless of the hopeless.
The Prophet had learnt in his experience with God that there is no closed case and so he was careful to answer. He said to God, “only thou knowest.” We must learn this all-powerful lesson from the Prophet as it applies to our own lives. God alone can put a seal on any situation, including the seemingly hopeless situation that we might presently be faced with. There is hope for you. Although seemingly concluded by men and empirically impossible, it is still not yet concluded. We must learn to leave our fate always in the hands of God.
Also, we see in later verses that God says to the Prophet to prophesy to the bones to hear the words of the Lord. We must learn to speak God’s word to our situations. Prophesy to your lives. Speak the word of God to your situations. Child of God, prophesy!
Prayer: Dear Lord, stir up my faith to speak your word to the difficult and impossible situations in my life and help me to trust you in the face of impossibilities in Jesus Christ name.
