Bible Reading: Jonah. 1; 2; 3; 4, Revelation 10
Memory Verse: “Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.” Jonah 1:10 (KJV)
Several years ago before I became a Christian, I was moving with some young men that said they would commit so much sin such that when they die, God will throw them in annoyance beyond the limits of hell! Such is the limit of man’s thoughts that God is like a man that can miss his target. Men are limited in knowledge, wisdom, understanding and sometimes use this to limit the Almighty God. God reveals himself in Revelation 1:8 (KJV), “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
So whatever you do, wherever you are, He knows all because He created all things! (Genesis 1:1). It is therefore surprising when people say that they will run away from God. The bible says in Jonah 1:3 (KJV), “But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.” Similarly some people think that they can hide and commit some sins outside the purview of God. But they forget that God can see all things whether in the light or darkness because he created them both!
When Jonah purportedly fled from the presence of God by going to a different location by ship, God ambushed him and made a storm to disrupt his planned trip to Tarshish. He confessed his plan to others on the same ship with him. Jonah 1:10 (KJV), “Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.” And then God made him to do his assignment.
What are you doing that you think it’s outside the purview of God. That is total ignorance. God is All-knowing and so knows everything that you think, say or do. In fact, in addition to judging your actions, He promised to also judge all that you say. Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV), “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. [37] For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
There is therefore no way anyone can run away from God and it is better for you to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and thereafter live a life of obedience to his words.
Prayer point: Father, help me to live a life that pleases you always in Jesus name.
