Bible Reading: Micah 1; 2; 3, Revelation 11
Memory Verse: “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,” Revelation 11:16 (KJV)
Worship is defined by Merriam-Webster as honouring or showing reverence for, a divine being or supernatural power. It further defined it to mean to regard with great or extravagant respect, honour, or devotion. Worshipping God therefore would mean showing reverence by extravagant respect, honour or devotion to God. It involves both an attitude and action of granting God the adoration, reverence and homage that He is due. It is the expression of God’s holiness, goodness, and power.
Worship is thus a lifestyle. A Christian can live with an attitude of worship no matter what he or she is doing. As believers, you can do all things as if you are doing them for the Lord, making all of those things act of worship. It is important to note that as Christians there are seven ways by which you can relate to God. You can do so by murmuring and complaining (Exodus 16:9-20), querying God (Mark 4:35-41), asking Him questions (2 Kings 2:11-14), Calling on Him in form of prayers (Matthew 14:25-31), Thanking Him (Psalm 100:4), Praising Him ( 2 Chronicles 20:19-25), or Worshipping Him ( John 4:23). These seven ways are hierarchical and Worshipping God is the height of Communicating with Him and this is why you can access what others cannot through worship.
If you can make worshipping Him your lifestyle, you will live a fulfilling life. It’s important to note that Worshipping God is not just in songs or hymns but also by whatever you do as long as you put God first and you do so in Spirit and truth just like the twenty four elders in Revelation 11:16 (KJV), “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God.”
Generally, Worshipping God as a believer is a function of your heart. You must place God first in all you do. This means you should not worship any other god knowing that our God is a jealous God (Deuteronomy 6:13-15) because whatever you give your heart to is what you worship. So you may be worshipping money, power, lifestyle, a man of God or even your children because Worship is an attitude of the heart! Now if you had been worshipping any other idol such as one noted above, you need to repent and place God first in all that you do!
Action Point: Worship God this morning for about thirty minutes. You can start by calling Him His names and also what He means to you.
